NCH

NCH is one of the UK's leading children's charities. Through more than 460 projects they work with over 89,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families to ensure they reach their full potential.

Every year, thousands of children and young people face problems because of disability, poverty, abuse, neglect and social exclusion. NCH makes a real difference to their lives by providing a diverse network of projects throughout the UK to meet their needs.

Founded in 1869, they have over 130 years of child care experience, as well as the skills, knowledge and expertise of a 21st century charity. Today they run over 460 projects in the UK, supporting more than 89,000 children at risk, vulnerable young people and families in need of support.

NCH believes in the potential of all children and young people. They design their services in partnership with their service users and work with them to ensure they all have the chance of a fulfilling life.

     BOB BRIDGES

The NCH Order of St Christopher Award 2001 was presented to Bob and nine others at the NCH Annual Public Meeting held on 13 October 2001 at the British Museum. London. The award was presented by Lord and Lady Murray of Epping Forest (Wardens of the NCH Order of St Christopher) for oustanding commitment to the work of NCH and as recognition of the considerable contribution made in a voluntary capacity to the lives of some of the United Kingdom's most vulnerable children, young people and families. A supporting citation by Rev David Gillman (Bob's nominee) reads as follows:

"Bob Bridges
Community supporter,
Surrey (South East)
Nominated by: Revd David Gillman

Bob has been an outstanding advocate and enthusiast for NCH for 45 years. He has been responsible for house-to-house collections and other events and initiatives at New Malden since 1967, but before that was also involved in fundraising at Worcester. The total collected in the house-to-house collections last year, thanks in large part to Bob's dedication, was £2,800.

Bob's support is doubly valuable since he has constantly updated his knowledge of NCH's work and has 'moved with the times'. He has recognised the importance of sustained giving and has worked tirelessly both within and outside the Methodist Church to maintain and increase the amounts raised. On behalf of New Malden Methodist Church I should like to put Bob's name forward for the Order of St Christopher Award - a nomination that, on a personal level, I very warmly endorse."
